Plaid and lace doggy dress

The same paper pattern can be implemented in many ways. Here’s another dress for Coco using the same pattern as the animal print dress. My little model told me to shorten the front of the skirt so she won’t step on it. Here are the before-snip pics.

Doggy muumuu

Why a muumuu? It’s looser, made of a really thin and cool material, and the print reminds me of muumuus. Same pattern as the animal print doggy dress but longer and looser.

Animal print doggy dress

This is a quilting square from Walmart. Coco’s a small dog so this was just enough for an outfit. Her outfits are usually made with knits of some sort. Trying a non stretch woven with this dress. Here’s Coco modeling her new dress 🙂

Stripey dress

Tweaked a shift dress pattern by using just the bodice part and giving it a waistband and a circle skirt. Added strips to the sides that are long enough to tie into a bow at the back. Is this a fun dress, work dress, or party dress? Hmmm..

Tutorial: Easy cowl / turtle neck knit dress

Remember my birthday dress? Here’s how it was constructed, without the pintucks. The pintucks are optional. Finish the collar last if you decide to add pintucks. Here is a dress without pintucks. The pintucks are useful for shaping the dress – fitting around the bust and loose from waist down, tighter on the back… Please…

McCalls M9872 contrast dress

I don’t typically buy patterns as i have been getting by with DIYing. However, this pattern called to me at Walmart. I traced out the top pieces on packing paper that came with handbags so i don’t feel bad about poking holes and slowly destroying the original pattern pieces. Anyone else does that? Since i…

Faux wraparound dress

While organizing my fabric stash, i stumbled upon 2 remnants from previous projects – the end of a skirt that i had chopped off to shorten a store-bought piece, and a skirt lining of a previous early project that hadn’t worked out. The skirt fabric is hardy yet stretchy and would make a great bodice.…

Firework dress

This is one of the pieces from the fabric.com 3lb knit box off of Amazon. It is so colorful that i didn’t know what to do with it for a while. Inspiration came one evening and this is what came out of it. The back is cross-back and somewhat bare. I changed the back a…

Dress that looks like a tee and skirt

It always begins with rifling through the fabric stash and leftovers that treasure is found. So I found a striped green fabric that is stretchy. Just enough to make a square top. I bound the neckline and arm holes with fold over elastic. Then remembered a ribbed knit tank top left it the stash. Cut…

Maternity clothes attempt

My friend’s 4 months along and she has been so inundated with things and life that there been no time to shop for summer appropriate maternity clothing. So I thought this would be a great time to try making maternity clothing. I used my usual no-pattern patterns to make 2 outfits. 1. extra large front…

Tutorial: Cowl neck square top

Happy 2016! How did you spend the first day of the new year? I spent a few hours sewing and it was delightful. Remember square tops and how easy those are? Here’s a little twist to the square top by lengthening it into a tunic and then adding a cowl neck and  a thick sheer…

Refashioning a long dress

Made this dress some time ago and thought I’d have loads of opportunities to wear it. I did wear it. Once. So I guess it needs some refashioning. Chopped off the bottom to make a new skirt. The dress itself is updated with white lace at the hem. Just like the skirt.:) Hope more occasions…

Multi length sleeveless dress

My friend Ella came by for a sewing session today and made a new top for herself by tracing out a shirt she had. She made some interesting changes: increased the length and gave it a subtle high low hem, lowered the neckline, left off the collar, made it sleeveless. I’ll share a pic if…

U-neck cropped top to V-neck dress

This is my latest project! More details to follow. 🙂 Sometime in early January, I was browsing JCP.com for work pants and chanced upon a cropped top in the sale section. At $3.99 per piece (U.P. $16.00), I saw lots of possibilities for refashioning. Especially since the cropped top look isn’t what I usually go…

Tutorial: Peek-a-boo Xmas Dress

So I got really busy yesterday, started work on a project with a very Christmassy looking fabric. This was a birthday present and is called America The Beautiful, CRK-70295-3. It’s 100% cotton, not something I usually work with, or experiment on. I have found that knits are more forgiving for an experimenter who doesn’t follow…

Purple Velour Dress

I’ve not been doing much sewing for me and it’s been hard. Really hard. It’s like the sewing machine calls to me when i walk by. “Use me! Pick up some thread! Let’s sew!” Anyway, it totally broke down my resistance. So i present to you… my new purple velour dress. 🙂 This was material…

Layer with Lace

5 yards of red lace has been sitting in my fabric pile for over a year and i finally had an idea for it – a gathered skirt with 3 layers! Halfway through the project, i was playing around with draping and was hit by inspiration to turn it into a layering piece. So with…
